The 5000 is a self propelled track base with 2 independent track motors, one fitted on the nearside, one on the offside at the rear of the unit, controlled by spool levers on the valve block. It has a variable track width by 2 hydraulic cylinders mounted horizontally in the track base, controlled by the spool lever on the valve block. It is always preferable to use the rig on the widest setting for stability reasons.
The mast is connected to the base via 2 pins and a hydraulic cylinder, which is used to tilt the mast back for setting up, manoeuvring and transport via the spool control lever.
If fitted the stabilisers are operated via the spool valve, these can be removed if required by disconnecting the quick release coupling, removing the pins and sliding them out of the box section.
The mast has 2 hydraulic motor gearboxes mounted to it, 1 fixed, which operates the 'feed' i.e., rotates the motor up/down. The other operates auger rotate forward/reverse, on later models there is also a mast height cylinder fitted to enable the mast to be lowered to the ground.
