| The basement of a property on Caversham Bridge, Reading, Berkshire, requiring underpinning.
The only access was via a standard-size door and alley at road level that led down a conventional ladder. These problems were overcome by using river barges to bring in ballast and cement and remove the excavated material each day.

250 m² slab was cast beneath the existing walls. More than 100 150 mm driven cased piles and a Gundomat piling mole were used. Before the final concrete pour we submitted specialist traffic diversion proposals in order to obtain a partial road closure. This allowed a pump to be brought in to bring concrete across the river bridge and into the building at water level.

Residents continued to occupy the flats above the basement whilst these works were carried out.
